When the world feels chaotic and heavy, we can find ourselves asking: Does anything I do really matter? What is my purpose here?
For spiritually sensitive souls, this weight is familiar. We feel deeply, and sometimes that depth makes our contributions feel small.
But it’s not a time to feel small—quite the opposite, it’s the time to shine!
We long to be a source of light, but we often underestimate the reach and necessity of our own glow. It’s easy to assume that if the world is already shining, our light doesn’t matter.
Imagine a sunny day—how easy it is to overlook the smaller lights that make the day brilliant?
Consider the two Chinese idioms:
- 錦上添花, “to put a cherry on top of the cake” or “the icing on the cake,” making something already good even better, versus
- 雪中送炭 (sending charcoal in snowy weather), “to lend a hand at someone’s crucial time of need.”
A gesture of similar effort might mean a lot more simply when it’s harder.
If the trends and changes in the world is beyond our control, then it’s a given circumstance and we need to focus on our attitude and approach to it, not just on the circumstances itself.
In this sense, darkness is not a reason to give up, to dim our lights, or relinquish inner strength. It’s not the end, it’s a beginning.
When shadows fall and darkness stretches, every flicker of light becomes powerful and necessary.
Even when it feels unnoticed, your presence, your acts of kindness, your moments of understanding—they are guiding beacons in the darkness. They matter not only for yourself but for the people around you who are looking for hope and reassurance.
This isn’t about doing something grand or heroic. It’s about being fully yourself—showing compassion, speaking your truth, holding space for love and healing, and standing quietly but firmly in what is right.
You can set examples with the things you do.
You can lead and influence with the way you show up.
This is especially true if you’ve read, studied, trained, and practiced spirituality and magic in any way. You’re still alive. This means it’s a great opportunity to use the power, to grow even more, to lead more. We will be tested, and we will continue to make mistakes, but see — this is the time we’ve been trained for to do impactful work.
Real tests may come: What to say when pressured to sell out on innocent neighbors? How much visibility and therefore risks to take on? Is it okay to just hide in inaction and despair for who knows how long? Is it smarter to be numb?
You matter more than you may realize. I’m saying this to myself as well. We are not alone.
To answer, “what do we do? How do we live?” Even with the stimulation overload today, words and arts of inspirations, courage, and persistence will lift us up and sustain our humanity. So create, talk, help others, interact — all the acts that reaffirm our humanity — and make magic, perform spells, and pray, like the world depends on you.
